This is the current game I’m working on; DARKSIDERS! and it’s shaping up to be a real cool title. Keep your eyes peeled for more as it happens.

  1. Hi Haydn, Darksiders looks incredible! Clearly, there are super talented people working on this game and creating an amazing product. I’m sure you play no small roll in that.

Anyway, I am a big Joe Madureira fan and I was wondering if you happen to know to what extent Joe’s actual concept drawings will be featured in the game? Will they be unlockable bonus material? Will there be finished Joe Madureira artwork featured on title screens and stuff like that? Also, any hope we’ll get a Darksiders comic and/or art book to come along with the game?

    • Hi Tom,

thanks for the kind comments on the game.

To answer your question about Joe’s artwork, there isn’t a super clear answer currently. Our goal is to have an area in the game where all the concept art from Joe and the rest of the Darksiders Concept Art team will reside and unlock during the course of the game.

The only problem is time now, as we need to complete and polish the game itself. If we don’t release it within the game, I’m sure there’ll be an outlet somewhere people will be able to see ALL the art.

Sorry for the shady response, but it is an item which is in flux right now.

  2. Thanks for the response, Haydn. As a fan of Joe’s work I have my fingers crossed that his work will be released with the game in some form so that it can be enjoyed! I hope you guys find the time to handle this aspect of the game in a cool way.

    Keep up the great work!

  3. This art work is amazing. Can you tell me what software you used for the modeling.

  4. Hi Sean,

we do a lot of our high-end organic/character modelling using Z-Brush, and occasionally people have been known to use Silo to create their base meshes. For harder edge elements, like environments, we use 3DS Max, and our textures are done in Photoshop.

    Thanks for the interest.

  5. Hey HDN,hows it going with comi-con? XD

I have a question do you know if theres going to be release some sort of art or wallpaper of that poster that have in comic-con the one that have War grabing an angel?

    • Hey Death Ryu,

THQ have a lot visual assets now, and I know they do plan to release different versions of them (wallpapers, posters etc.) but I don’t know when they’re going to release it. There’s not long to the release of the game now, so I’d figure it’d be in the next couple of months.

      – H

  6. Thanks a lot HDN for the response.

I cant wait for the game =)

  7. Super excited for darksiders

I keep hearing about JOe’s artwork, is there some sort of already existing darksiders comic or graphic novel? If so I’d really like to get my hands on that!

    • We we’re planning on doing an online comic via the official Darksiders site, but all Joe’s time has been spent working like crazy on both Vigil Games products (Darksiders/Warhammer 40kmmo).

  8. HDN, Darksiders seems to be really shaping up to be one of the most legendary games ever. That’s why I’m really looking forward to this game starting off the new year. It’s really the no.1 on my wishlist.

A couple of months ago I hoped to see you guys at Gamescom 09 in Cologne, Germany. Unfortunately I didn’t find any Darksiders booth. It’s probably because you choose to visit TGS 09. I was a bit bummed though. I live in the Netherlands so this was the best chance to meet the developers and ofcourse Joe Madureira in person…I’m like his second greatest fan:D And I received free business area tickets trough my employer. (I work at a videogamestore)I also missed out on the community event in London, was totally not aware of it.:(

My question is if there are any plans to come to Europe again, maybe after Darksiders is released? During promotion for Warhammer40kmmo perhaps?

thank you in advance and keep up the great work!

    • Hi TP_Dimplus,

I thought we had a presence at Cologne this year…maybe it was last 😦 We were crunching hard on the game during TGS 09, only Joe Mad went to the show.

Joe did a big tour of Europe, including Germany, UK, France and Italy. Smaller gaming shows I think, but there are no more plans (that I know of) currently.

I’m sure there’ll be a big European for the 40K MMO and whatever game our Darksiders team does next too 🙂

      • I was only in Cologne for the first day of Gamescom, however…next year I will definetly go there for the whole 5 days of gaming extravaganza. Missed out some cool events.

Well, I’m still hoping I will be able to meet the Vigil team in the near future. Again thank you for this great videogame…I finished Darksiders on apocalyptic on my first playtrough. I did take my time and haven’t discovered all the left over secrets:D

        Take care:D
