Darksiders Revealed

Big Green Dude  Big Dude

At last, Darksiders has been announced so I can now talk about it with friends without the threat of death. The latest incarnation of E3 hasn’t spawned many suprises, but Darksiders: Wrath of War is certainly one of them, which is good.

In Darksiders, you play as WAR, one of the four horsemen of the Apocalypse, the Earth is destroyed, you’re stripped of your powers and are on the path to regain your former glory.

The game is a cross between Zelda & Devil May Cry. You can wield mythical and human weapons (swords, scythe’s, chain guns etc.), thats not to mention he can also pick up,and use, cars & buses too!  What would he be without his trusty steed too? not a horseman for sure, so you’ll also get his mythical horse at some point in the game, that is also a powerful tool in your arsenal. All the character designs are from Joe MAD; creative director at Vigil Games, if you know anything about comics, you know Joe’s the man when it comes to this.

We wanted to create a game that allowed the player a more open, explorative experience, and even though you don’t really get that from the video footage shown on the net, it’s where the game is going. There’s a good mix of traversal, puzzle solving and combat to be had, over a pretty huge set of environments. It’s going to be released later next year and is for X360 & PS3 platforms.

There’s a couple of links below, that will jump to a handful of the articles on the game where you can see the teaser, screenshots & concepts:

There’s also a six-page spread in the August GAMEINFORMER magazine (see top lefthand corner of the cover :)).

I’m hoping I’ll get chance to talk about the development of this title more, as we don’t have a blog anywhere for it. I also don’t want to be tied down with writing one all the time too.

Big Dude!

  1. This is fantastic. As an Austin local game fanatic / voice actor, I’ve been waiting for the reveal of Vigil’s second title.

I really dug the in-depth feature in Game Informer, but wish “Darksiders” had been the cover story! 😉

Best of Luck to folks. This looks wicked cool.

  2. Hi Adam,

thanks for the comments. It’s been hard keeping this one quiet for so long.

We were in consideration for the cover of Game Informer, but unfortunately Prototype beat us to it 😦
