Hi Haydn, I just wanted to say hello and try to make a friendly connection with someone at Vigil. I am an environment artist and modeler and I just applied to Vigil through the website. I’m about to graduate from the Ringling Computer Animation Department and I’m hoping that even though I don’t see any positions open from non-senior artist, maybe you guys will be looking soon. I really love what you guys are doing with Darksiders and I can’t wait to play it. When I came across your blog and was really excited to see a glimpse into the inner workings there. You guys are doing incredible stuff. Thanks for doing this blog, I’ll be following it.
Hi Greg,
we’re always open to talented people, like I mentioned in the Jobs at Vigil area. We also have art interns here, with this role, we start people off with minor responsibilities and slowly ramp up their workload until we think they are good enough to become an actual artist at Vigil.
There are other things that come into the role of an art intern too; are you enthusiastic and eager? Is your work quality and personal bar set high enough? Do you mind taking critiques on what you do (this will happen often!) and do you use those comments moving forward? Could you do mundane work before getting into the ‘meat’ of things?
The list goes on, but if your work and enthusiasm show through in the things you send Vigil, who knows, they may give you crack at the title
Good luck.
Hi Haydn, longtime no speak.
I remember when you came into my office at Software Creations looking for that artist job for the C64. You are a fine example of what can happen when you are determined, enthusiastic and willing to put in the hard graft. You were given a lot (and I mean a lot) of grunge work before getting the top projects.
I’m delighted you have done so well and you made running a games development company a real pleasure.
Richard Kay
Ex Software Creations – RIP
Hey Richard,
thanks for the kinds words. Yep, that early work did suck, but it’s character building right? lol.
Software Creations was a big part of my early career and holds a lot of fond (and not too fond)memories. Luckily for me, I had a lot more good times than bad.
The Oxford Road days where development folklore. I’m glad I was there to be part of it.
