haydndaltonJust a couple of things in the last few weeks. First off, Darksiders 2 has been announced as being in development, and yes, it’s going to be kick-ass-cool for all those cockboxers out there. Secondly I bought myself a HDTV at last, can you believe that, a game developer who DIDN’T have an HDTV…it’s almost a sack-able offence!!
Of other interest, I did a podcast with the peeps at Pixelated Sausage, the podcast is called Distributed Failure, and my interview can be found here: DF – Haydn It’s a long interview and there’s a little strong language in there…and it’s looongg…so be prepared for the long haul, or a nice cozy sleep with us gabbing in your ears.
In other news, it was also announced that Vigil Games’ “Warhammer 40k mmo” will be shown at E3 this year. I’m sure people are going to love what they see. Our MMO team is kickin’ some major big-ole ass over there.

Friday night saw all of us Vigil Gamer’s head out to the Darksiders wrap party. The event was held at Speak Easy in the heart of our very Austin. It’s a nice, intimate but spacey place to have the event. The drinks were flowing, people were elated and just plain gushing with pride…the atmosphere was great.
Darksiders movies/trailers were being shown on the big projector screen in the main room, ending with the “BUY THIS GAME” video by XxBrodeoxX. A professional photographer nipped around the event taking snaps.
Partway through the night, a few of the team members got up on stage and talked about their feelings on the game, it’s release and about Vigil.
There was an internal video playing which featured THQ’s head Brian Farrell, along with other key THQ people who helped make the game possible….ending the video with a selection of the Darksiders team on the history of the game, pranks, final thoughts etc. it was a great video! I’m hoping we can release it to the public, its pretty funny and insightful.
Nearing the end of the night, I found the “Candid Photographer” area, which was basically a small booth where you could put on props and arse around in front of the camera…and with that, I’ve posted a selection of them, all taken by Trevor Ray (check his site out):

Darksiders was released in the US yesterday and now it’s the morning after. If I smoked, I’d have been through 5 or 10 packets in the last 24hrs!!! I’ve had real trouble sleeping in the last couple of days, it’s been a mix of anxiety and excitement surrounding the game’s release. More than anything, I’ve been massivley addicted to checking out as many review/preview sites as humanly possible, including checking my phone while in bed…yes, I know…it’s sad.
So what’s my thoughts about Darksiders initial feedback from gamers and reviewers? It’s FUCKING AWESOME!!! Just trawling the forums, boards and comments in all these places gives me a very good overall view that the people who’ve bought and played the game, love it. Hell, they even defend the game against those who attempt to drag it down…that, in itself is great.
For those of you who may not have seen it, get over to NEOGAF and their official thread…I’ve been checking there since its inception and you can read the comments go from doubt, to excitement, to pleasure once they’ve bought and played the game.
Reading the forums etc. is fantastic and informational. The opinions are formed from people who (usually) have no agenda, and more importantly, they’re the end user…they forked out their hard earned $60 to play something you made……so it’s the purest form of feedback for a developer to take in. It’s no different to a focus group test, other than people are in their own living rooms rather than a controlled environment so their comments are more candid, and in most cases, honest.
Anyways, as you may tell, I’m excited and happy with how the game is being recieved and, it’s great fuel for whatever we do next.
I’m going to take down the DARKSIDERS review area as we have just too many of them now, and it’s huge….but yesterday while waiting for some of big sites to post their reviews, I found this one from a member of the general public. It’s honest and he’s excitable, Mr AcidSnake87…it made me laugh and smile that this person loved the game so much and just wanted to let people know, asap, what he thought of it.

Joaby over at Game Arena has posted his verdict on Darksiders..and it’s a 10/10!! All I can say is…it’s awesome news. I’m feeling like a kid a Christmas right now knowing that people love the game as much as we did.
